Perhaps a look at the relative margin of both companies will provide and indicator that the both providers and insurers are culprits in the rising healthcare costs, not just the providers. United posted a 9.1% margin last year compared to HCA 5.8% Both companies are looking out for the stockholders, not the employers nor the public. To place the onus for increasing cost of healthcare on the provider (HCA) is unrealistic. The HMOs play a large part in the increasing cost of healthcare, but have the public perception that they are trying to hold down those costs.

As long as we as a country continue to maintain such a high expectation for the kind of access and level of healthcare we want, the current financing mechanisms will never be maintainable in the long run. The conflicts between providers and insurers will continue to worsen, impacting the availablility and access to healthcare. Look at the growing number of uninsureds over the last 5 years, up by 5 million.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14162253.post-1157892899556262472006-09-10T06:54:00.000-06:002006-09-10T06:54:00.000-06:00Excellent!Excellent!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
