Although videogame technology wasn't as advanced back then, his actions resembled Hollywood movies.Michael Malakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10007582156392845677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14162253.post-44529487545679267042009-01-23T15:24:00.000-07:002009-01-23T15:24:00.000-07:00Organized groups upset with the legitimacy of a ru...Organized groups upset with the legitimacy of a ruling regime are what turns tire slashers into bombers armed with automatic weapons.

Indeed, I'm not convinced that bombers armed with automatic weapons are even enaged in violent and aggressive behavior, in the sense meant by developmental psychologists, which is to a great extent a lack of physical and emotional self-control similar to what causes a tantrum in a child.

The profile of the machine gun armed bomber is closer to that of an ordinary soldier, than that of a typical violent and/or aggressive adolescent; more aggressive than your average person perhaps, but not usually to a disfunctional degree. (People with disciplinary problems that result from these kinds of tendencies growing up are often denied entry to military forces or wash out in basic training, by the way.)

The evidence that people are powerfully influenced in their actions by violent media is quite weak. Indeed, a recent study on violent video games found that gamers barely notice the violent details and are instead drawn by the sense of control and competence that the games provide to their players.Andrew Oh-Willekehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02537151821869153861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14162253.post-11622406215738766022009-01-23T13:08:00.000-07:002009-01-23T13:08:00.000-07:00Violent media is an accelerant, not an instigator,...Violent media is an accelerant, not an instigator, of violence. It turns a tire slasher into a bomber armed with automatic weapons (in order to live up that Hollywood image).

Not that regulation of violent media is high on my list of priorities. Eliminating alienation resulting from suburban warehouses known as public high schools would be a higher priority.Michael Malakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10007582156392845677noreply@blogger.com
