Americans Are Still Evolution Idiots.

A recent CBS poll found that 51% of Americans believed that humans were created by God in their present form. Just 15% believe that humans evolved over millions of years without God's help, which is the overwhelming scientific consensus view. An August poll had put the Creationist number at 42%, although the overall trends were similar. The new poll has a 4 percentage point margin of error.

Americans most likely to believe in only evolution are liberals (36 percent), those who rarely or never attend religious services (25 percent), and those with a college degree or higher (24 percent).

White evangelicals (77 percent), weekly churchgoers (74 percent) and conservatives (64 percent), are mostly likely to say God created humans in their present form.

Liberals like to believe that conservatives are basically rational people with whom they differ on a few values. Polls like this one don't encourage that belief.
