A very small Canadian study tried giving seventeen alcoholic homeless vagrants free alcohol. Most did much better when receiving the free alcohol. Three died from alcohol related diseases. Three dropped out of the study. The study lacked a control group. This is hardly a take it to the bank success. Still, this counter-intuitive approach definitely deserves further attention.
