Bad Timing On Mine Sweepers?

"The U.S. Navy is decommissioning its twelve Osprey mine hunting ships." But, the replacement, the Littoral Combat Ship, won't be available to replace them for several years and may need to operate in somewhat deeper waters. The ships will be given away or sold cheap to U.S. allies. The rush to be rid of the ships at a time when the U.S. is contemplating war with Iran in the Persian Gulf is confusing.
