Connecticut judge Curtissa Cofield,60, surely knows that she has a right to remain silent when arrested, but there is knowing, and there is doing.
In the long run, her videotaped, objectionable, racially insulting, drunken banter in the course of her arrest for DUI and crashing while drunk into a police car, probably hurts her career more than the arrest itself. Her husband, whom she called on a cell phone from three feet away in the police station, was also no doubt mortified.
She had been on the bench for sixteen years when she was arrested October 9, 2008, and is Connecticut's first black female judge. Judicial discipline proceedings are now pending against her.
