State Budget Gaps 2010

Most states have to cut their budgets for the 2010 fiscal year, but the intensity of the problem varies from state to state.

Colorado's state budget woes are in the middle of the pack, nationally. Colorado has a 19% of general fund shortfall, compared to a median shortfall of 18%. California and Illinois have reached the point where they have had to pay obligations with IOUs within the last year because they have run out of money. States like Arizona, Nevada and New York are also in dire state budget situations. The percentage shortfall in the general fund that must be resolved with revenue increases and spending cuts is shown before for all fifty states.
