It is hardly surprising, but somewhat ironic, that the people in Europe whose values most closely resemble those of American Evangelical Christians on social issues are
Islamic immigrant populations. The non-immigrant French, meanwhile tend to be more liberal on these issues than the Germans or the British.
Still the more open-minded and secular French society seems to have a stronger effect in Muslims.
ReplyDeleteI do not think it's ironic that Muslims and Christians (and Jews) are alike: they are the same damn thing in fact. Hence for me it's difficult when the discourse is artificially changed from the Secular-Religious axis to that of Christian-Muslim, which for me is a pointless distinction.
The irony comes from the fierce anti-Islamic sentiments of the Christians whom they most resemble in their moral values.
