Misery suppresses suicide

The happiest countries and happiest U.S. states tend to have the highest suicide rates[.] . . . "This result is consistent with other research that shows that people judge their well-being in comparison to others around them. The relationship is strong and statistically robust, but theories to explain it are merely guesswork.
