The U.S. Attorney For Arizona Is Suffering From Reefer Madness

95% of the 305 individuals serving time in federal prison for simple drug offenses are non-citizens and 95.7% were sentenced in southwest border districts — virtually all of them in Arizona. Furthermore, 95.7% of the simple possession drug crimes for which offenders are incarcerated involved marijuana. . . . Only 13 simple possession cases were tried in non-border districts in FY 2014.
From here.

President Obama needs to replace the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona who is screwing up his handling of marijuana prosecutions in a way that costs the federal government a great deal of money for no valid purpose. Other border state prosecutors deport non-citizen marijuana offenders who could be convicted of simply possession, rather than spending federal scarce federal criminal justice dollars to incarcerate them.
