Problems With The Median Voter Theorem

The median voter theorem, while a good starting point, is flawed.

1. Most voters have no meaningful opinion about most issues.

2. Voters are at least as influenced by their elected representatives as their elected representatives are influenced by them. The implicit chain of causation is flawed.

3. Politicians have a more bimodal distribution of political opinion than rank and file voters, and act accordingly, although this has gradually changed in recent years.
