Brain Injury Is Behind Many Of Society's Worst Problems

[N]early two-thirds of those experiencing chronic homelessness in metro Denver suffer from some kind of brain injury[.]
From here.

The very bottom of American society, from the people who are "problem" inmates in jails and prisons, to the chronically homeless, is pervasively full of people with brain injuries. And, mostly, these are conditions that can't be cured.

Mostly head injuries. Attacks on homeless people, fights, and contact sports are some of the main causes of those.

  3. Car accidents and falls are also major causes. I know at least four people who have had their lives turned upside down by traumatic brain injuries.

One was a "Big Six" accountant who was in a car accident and now can barely function as a house cleaner has has very odd beliefs now. One was a lawyer who was in a car accident who has still able to practice but became much more difficult interpersonally and was less sharp. One was an investment banker who was accidentally pushed off a sidewalk into the path of an oncoming bus who afterwards struggled to work as a waiter. One was a farmer who was seriously hurt in a farm machinery accident that he barely survived whose personality changed so shockingly that his marriage fell apart who had to go from full time farming to helping his children and nephews who farmed part-time.
