General Motors is apparently embarking on a strategy to open new union free plants in the middle of the Rust Belt in connection with the Chevy Volt.
I can't see this ending well. General Motors is owned mostly by unions and governments that are currently more pro-union than they are anti-union. The strategy also fundamentally misunderstands that green car buyers are to a great extent making a symbolic choice, rather than a pure price choice, something that GM can't afford to screw up. He who lives by the warm and fuzzy brand, dies by the warm and fuzzy brand's tarnishment.
