Earliest Writing Education Started Late

The first written language, Sumerian, was used in Mesopotamia by scribes about 3,500 B.C.E. When did scribes start their training?

Some curious new evidence suggests that it started at around age 12-13, around the time that kids are in the 7th or 8th grade today.

Throughout history knowledge has been withheld from children as a way to control them.
