The cat, a high speed car ferry, takes passengers and their cars at 55 miles per hour from Maine to Nova Scotia. Similar designs are used in Australia for civilian purposes, by the United States Army, and as a proof of concept for the Navy's planned Littoral Combat Ship. The cat shaves 7 hours off of what previously was a twelve hour trip.
