One of the stories of the post-9-11 era is the resurgence of the American flag as a potent political symbol and the evolving meaning of that symbol. I'm not a Harvard symbologist, but you don't always have to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.
Vesta Vespa has a good take on that evolving story today, along with the prouder and less proud moments that come with being an American, as she discusses the meaning of an "American flag hanging in the rear window of a semi with no trailer attached." It is worth your time to read it.
