Go Broncos!

This weekend, the Denver Broncos, who came from behind with the help of our state hero, quarterback Tim Tebow, to make it into the playoffs, faces my brother's hometown team, the New England Patriots. Since, as my brother kindly explained to me, the Broncos can never face the Patriots in a Superbowl, because they are in the same same division, this is as good as it gets for grudge matches in my family.

Indeed, this particular Broncos/Patriots match is effectively the Superbowl for the 2011/2012 season. It's similar to how when I lived in Washington, DC, which had an NFC team, the NFC Championship was considered the Superbowl since the AFC team hardly ever won the Superbowl back then.

I don't expect the Broncos will win. Tebow gave his second-best-ever performance at the Broncos/Patriots regular season game on Dec. 18, and the Patriots won 41-23.

Heresy! Anyone can win on any given day (true - football team ranking are mathematically quite a bit less stable than basketball or baseball rankings, for example), and football is one area where faith and not reason is the order of the day.
