Statins Save Lives Again.

The Los Angeles Times reports that statin drugs currently used to reduce cholesterol reduce post-vascular surgery death rates by 80% and reduct post-surgical strokes by 70%, in a kind of surgery performed 180,000 times a year. The research will be published in the next issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery. Many patients facing this surgery already take statins, but this research should make their use nearly universal, saving many lives.
