Happy Thanksgiving!

Canadian readers, please enjoy the holiday.

American readers who are bankers can enjoy their Columbus Day holiday. Columbus Day is a floating holiday, it is always on Monday, in honor of the 1492 landing of Coumbus on land in the New World. But, he saw the Bahamas on October 11. The holiday has grown controversial and disfavored, with this year's parade in Denver lasting just 40 minutes of a 4 hour slot and garnering the usual contingent of protestors, although the affair was relatively peaceful.

American readers who are government employees can enjoy their unpaid furlough day. Does that mean that you aren't supposed to consume either? Denver Public Schools kids don't have today off, however, for once not taking the day off for a holiday.

Today in 2002, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This year the Nobel Prize in Economics is supposed to be awarded.

Yesterday, I duly noted 10-10-10 at 10:10:10 a.m., at a cross country meet my children attended.

We also got the first rain of October. WeatherDem recently made note of our dry and hot summer and early fall. His blog has been added to the side bar.
